This training is part of a series of trainings under the Enhancing the District’s Response to Trauma (EDRT) project—an initiative developed under a partnership between The District of Columbia Office of Victim Services and Justice Grants (OVSJG) and Give an Hour-and is intended to provide mental health clinicians and others on the front lines who work with survivors of trauma and victims of crime with the tools to avoid further trauma for their clients.

This webinar will provide mental health clinicians who work with survivors of trauma and victims of crime with an exposure to the many types of trauma treatment currently in use and with the resources to deepen their understanding and training in trauma treatment.

After this webinar, participants will be able to:

1. demonstrate a sophisticated understanding of current trauma theories and research findings
2. describe a variety of appropriate methods of clinical intervention with trauma survivors
3. understand the role of cultural, social and environmental factors as they relate to trauma and treatment
4. think critically about diversity and equity issues related to trauma and recovery
5. assess which type of trauma treatment might be appropriate for a particular survivor
6. describe pretreatment issues, treatment frame, alliance-building, safety, affect regulation,
stabilization, skill-building, education, deconditioning, mourning, resolution, integration of the trauma, self and relational development, and skill-building for enhanced daily living.
7. identify continuing education resources to deepen their approach to trauma treatment
